Overview
This module may include but is not limited to professionalism/philosophy/quality/governance, critical care without walls/escalation/NEWS, costs/personal/psychological, delirium, respiratory system, Cardiovascular system, renal system, neurological system, nutrition, infection prevention, sepsis, acid base balance, ABGs, DNAR/DNACPR/pathways/end of life.
Assessment Strategy
-threshold -Basic understanding of the facts and principles specific to the topics covered in this module. Basic understanding of professional issues related to acute/critical care. Students will be required to achieve a minimum of D- in the Grading Criteria
-good -Very good understanding of the facts and principles specific to the topics covered in this module and evidence of additional evidence gained by the student. Very good understanding of professional issues in acute/critical care. This equates to a minimum mark of Grade B- in the Grading Criteria
-excellent -Excellent understanding of the facts and principles specific to the topics covered in this module and evidence of additional evidence gained by the student. Excellent understanding of professional issues in acute/critical care. This equates to a minimum mark of Grade A- in the Grading Criteria

Learning Outcomes
- Analyse and evaluate the management of the acutely ill patient
- Apply a systematic knowledge of normal anatomy and physiology
- Demonstrate an analysed understanding of the context of acute/critical care
- Demonstrate the confidence and flexibility required for the provision and application of evidence based practice in acute/critical care

Clinical Blog Students will be expected to produce 4 Blogs. Each blog should be at least 500 words and will be related to a topic that has been discussed during the taught sessions. Students will be expected to interact with blogs posted by their fellow students.

Clinical Competencies Students will be expected to complete Clinical Competencies. These will be the National Competency framework for Adult Critical Care Steps 2 and 3 competencies. The students will be allocated the competencies in sections according to the topics covered in the taught sessions.
